Calculating today's sky…

The Day Ring: 24 hours around the dial, midnight at the bottom. The gold arc is daylight, the coloured marks are today's kalams, and the glyphs are the planetary horas.

Find your Moon sign, nakshatra and dasha

Enter a birth date and place. Your janma nakshatra sets your Vedic birthday, your daily Tara bala and the order of your Vimshottari dasha, shown below as the Life River.

Calculated on this device with the same formulas as the app's offline mode. The app uses a full ephemeris and adds the lagna, houses, a South or North Indian chart and a planet table.

Your Moon sign, nakshatra and pada will appear here, with your dasha as a flowing timeline.

    Family, not just you

A family tree that speaks your language

Add someone in under fifteen seconds: name, relation, place and date. Type the relation in plain words, like my mother's younger sister, and Jyoti works out who she is to everyone else. Only parents and spouses are stored. Every other relation is worked out from the tree, so it can never contradict itself.

    Family Sky

Every morning each person gets a ring: green for a supportive day, amber for a mixed one, rose for a go-gently day. It comes from their birth Moon set against today's Moon (Tara bala and Chandra bala). Tap anyone to see their day.

      Inside the app

Everything a family panchang should do

      • Birth charts

A rasi chart in South or North Indian style, and a planet table with sign, degree, nakshatra-pada, retrograde and dignity. If the birth time is unknown, readings switch to the Moon and are labelled that way.

      • Compatibility

Pick two people for an Ashtakoota guna milan score out of 36, with every koota explained in plain words.

      • Muhurta

"When should I…?" Choose travel, property, vehicle, new job, griha pravesh, naming, medical or study, and get ranked windows with reasons.

      • Festival calendar

A month view with the tithi on every day: Ekadashi, Pradosha, Sankashti, Purnima, Amavasya and Sankranti, plus family birthdays and shraddha dates.

      • Ask the astrologer

Chat about a chart or a day. The AI never does the maths. It explains facts that have already been calculated, and every answer shows what it's based on.

      • Vedic birthdays and shraddha

Birthdays by janma tithi and nakshatra, and ancestors' shraddha tithis, found every year and added to your calendar.

      Calculated, not guessed

How Raaya Jyoti does the maths

      • Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, with the true lunar node for Rahu and Ketu.
      • A sunrise-based panchang. Sunrise is when the Sun's upper edge meets the horizon, allowing for standard refraction, at your exact coordinates and in your time zone.
      • A deterministic ephemeris on the server. The same inputs always give the same chart.
      • The AI only explains. Every answer is grounded in the computed chart and shows its sources.
      • Honest about birth times. Each person's birth time is marked exact, approximate or unknown, and readings adapt to it.

      Questions

      Panchang and Jyotisha, briefly

What is Rahu Kalam and how is it calculated?

Rahu Kalam is a daily window of about 90 minutes that tradition treats as inauspicious for starting new things. The time from local sunrise to sunset is split into eight equal parts, and the weekday decides which part belongs to Rahu: the 8th on Sunday, 2nd on Monday, 7th on Tuesday, 5th on Wednesday, 6th on Thursday, 4th on Friday and 3rd on Saturday. Because it depends on sunrise, it changes with your city and the season.

What are Yamaganda and Gulika Kalam?

Yamaganda and Gulika (Gulika Kalam) are two more eighths of the daytime, chosen by weekday like Rahu Kalam. Yamaganda is avoided for new starts; Gulika is traditionally avoided for auspicious beginnings because whatever begins in it tends to repeat.

      What is a panchang?

A panchang (panchanga) is the Hindu almanac for a day. Its five limbs are the tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra (the Moon's lunar mansion), yoga (a combination of Sun and Moon longitudes) and karana (half of a tithi). Each is reckoned from local sunrise.

How do I find my nakshatra and Moon sign?

Your janma nakshatra is the lunar mansion the Moon occupied when you were born, and your Moon sign (rashi) is its zodiac sign in the sidereal zodiac. You need your birth date, place and ideally time: the Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, so it can change nakshatra within a day. Try the birth Moon finder.

      What is a hora?

Day and night are each split into twelve horas, ruled in turn by Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury and Moon. The first hora after sunrise belongs to the lord of the weekday. People use horas to pick an hour suited to a task: Mercury for commerce and talks, Jupiter for learning, Venus for comforts.

Which ayanamsa does Raaya Jyoti use?

Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), with the true lunar node, the standard for Indian panchangs.

      What is Vimshottari dasha?

Vimshottari dasha is a 120-year cycle of planetary periods. The period running at birth is set by the lord of your birth nakshatra, and how far the Moon had travelled through that nakshatra decides how much of it is left. Each mahadasha is divided into nine antardashas.

Does Raaya Jyoti make medical or financial predictions?

No. Raaya Jyoti offers guidance and reflection drawn from traditional Jyotisha. It does not make medical, legal or financial predictions and is not a substitute for professional advice.
